Join us in putting a FL constitutional amendment on the 2028 ballot to remove the corporate power to spend in elections. This will apply to all “artificial persons” including businesses, nonprofits, and labor unions.This will do two very important things:
1. Make it illegal for corporations to donate money to political committees, political action committees (including Super PACs), or spend money on political ads.2. Get rid of dark money in elections. Right now, billionaires (and trillionaires) give money to nonprofits or shell companies that in turn donate to PACs. PACs only report the name of the nonprofit or shell company as the donor, giving ultra-wealthy donors anonymity.

Corporations, non-profits, labor unions, and other "artificial persons" are entities created by the state and endowed with powers through corporate charters. For example, they can give them the power to open a bank account or the power to hire employees.For the past 200 years, the supreme court has affirmed that it is every state's right to determine what powers they wish to extend to artificial persons.Unfortunately, over the past 100 years states have been in a race to the bottom to grant corporations more and more powers. Today, most states give corporations the power to do almost anything a person can do.In 2010, Citizens United v. FEC ruled that if corporate charters give artificial persons the power to spend in politics, then we cannot limit their independent political expenditures, as doing so would limit their free speech.*So the solution is simple: revoke the corporate power to spend in elections.Power to the people, not corporations.* The precedent that political spending is a form of free speech was set by the Supreme Court case Buckley v. Valeo in 1976. Unfortunately, this cannot be undone without a national constitutional amendment that states "Money is NOT speech". Don't worry! An awesome organization called Move to Amend is working on it! They have put forth the We the People Amendment that states "Money is NOT speech, Corporations are NOT people, and we shall regulate both in our elections." FL CPR is proud to endorse MTA and the We the People Amendment.
